Ian Woosnam & Jamie Donaldson backs VGE vision for the future of golf in Wales
Valleys Golf Enterprise (VGE) is delighted to announce that Wales’ greatest golfer, Ian Woosnam OBE, has joined forces with VGE to help nurture the next generation of Welsh golfing superstars.
The former World Number 1 and 1991 Masters Champion has personally invested in the not-for-profit social enterprise company which was set up with the aim of unlocking and realising the full potential of future golfers as well as breaking down barriers to participation regardless of social background, ethnic origin, sex, age or ability.
VGE is currently the leading provider of junior golf coaching, education and training in the Rhondda Cynon Taff, Caerphilly, Blaenau Gwent and Torfaen.
“I know how hard it is to reach the very top of the sport and I’m really looking forward to help bring future Welsh champions through the ranks.”
“The idea is to try and give everyone the chance to try golf and introduce more children to the sport.”
Wales’ current number one golfer, Jamie Donaldson, has also backed VGE.
“Golf is a great game for children to get involved with. VGE gives youngsters the chance to try golf out and the opportunity to those who may think that it’s not a game for them. I wish them all the very best in the future
The first step in this journey is giving school children the chance to try golf – a sport which has the potential to help build numeracy and literacy skills, social and behavioural skills as well as acting as a platform to encourage a healthy lifestyle.
VGE is offering EVERY school a free taster session where children of all ages are given their first experience of playing golf.
VGE has established academy structures with junior coaching taking place six days of the week. They work in partnership with both the Golf Union of Wales and Golf Development Wales.
The Valleys Golf Centre in Ferndale is the latest acquisition for VGE with the 18-bay driving range being a new centre of excellence of coaching of all ages and abilities.
